The Battle

The Battle of Newburn (1640), where King Charles 1 got his comeuppance from the Scots, was the only major battle to be fought on Tyneside. Our song takes the perspective of an unwilling and otherwise unemployed conscript being used for the cause of an unpopular ruler.
